Rebecca King Hawkinson has been teaching drawing and painting to others since 2003. As part of the faculty of the Fine Arts League of the Carolinas, Hawkinson taught students Still Life painting and drawing, and Landscape Painting and drawing, as well as Portrait Drawing.
In addition to working with adults, Hawkinson has worked with high school students one on one, helping them to create portfolios for College admission and to sharpen their skills and knowledge of drawing and painting.
Most recently Hawkinson has begun teaching very young artists charcoal and brush drawing with watercolor through Nature Study objects lessons. Specimen from Nature are observed by the young student, and King Hawkinson guides them as they make recordings of the specimen that help them to further remember and tell back through artistic means what they have observed.
Developing skill in observation is the chief guide in learning to draw. As artists develop these powers of observation they develop their own unique voice to translate and record those observations.
